Mdina - the old capital

Mdina is the old capital city of Malta and lies on the south-western part of the island. You could say only a little bit in the outback. Beside it is Rabat. The population of Mdina is around 400 people. It is quite impossible that the population can increase, because the whole city resembles more a castle or fort then a city. The city lies 190mtrs above sea level (that’s quite high for Maltese landscape) and is surrounded with slopes on three sides. The city has almost the form of a square and is very strong fortified.

St. Georges Bay

St.Georges Bay is a small beach in Paceville. The sand is not very beautifully, coarse-grained and brownish. The bay itself is very limited; one can only swim to a maximum of 150 - 200 meters out to sea, as from then onwards the area is reserved for anchoring boats, which also block the view to the open sea. The beach is very well frequented in the summer.

Senglea (L-Isla)

The peninsula of Senglea (L-Isla) lies southwards of Valletta in the Grand Harbor. On the left side of the peninsula there is the French Creek in which there are also the docks with the huge cranes. On the other side is the Dockyard Creek and Vittoriosa (Birgu). In the south of Senglea is Cospicua (Bormla). Senglea was founded by the Grand Master ‘De La Sengle‘ in the year of 1551. From him the city also got its name: Senglea.
