Hypogeum of Hal Saflieni

Hypogeum of Hal Saflieni

The Hypogeum is a subsurface cave-system in Hal-Saflieni (a small village) near Paola. The caves were discovered accidentally during the process of excavating a cistern in 1902. The numerous rooms are distributed on three levels which are all connected with stairs.

Jewelers and stone-vessels were found. Another find was the sleeping priest. Additionally bones of 6000 people were also found. The whole complex should be around 3200 - 2400 years old.

It is believed that the sweat of the many visitors is damaging the temple. To prevent further damage the whole cave-system was modernized and a visitors-limit was introduced. Only 8 - 10 groups are allowed to visit the Hypogeum. Through this method it’s quite impossible to step up and buy a ticket whenever you want. Tickets should be ordered some time earlier. In the summer the sales number of tickets increases, that means that you have to wait longer. While only few people are visiting it during the winter.

Senglea (L-Isla)

The peninsula of Senglea (L-Isla) lies southwards of Valletta in the Grand Harbor. On the left side of the peninsula there is the French Creek in which there are also the docks with the huge cranes. On the other side is the Dockyard Creek and Vittoriosa (Birgu). In the south of Senglea is Cospicua (Bormla). Senglea was founded by the Grand Master ‘De La Sengle‘ in the year of 1551. From him the city also got its name: Senglea.

Ghajn Tuffieha Bay

The Ghajn Tuffieha bay is situated directly besides that of Golden Bay. It can be reached very easily on foot. Parking lots are available directly above the bay. The bay is fantastically beautiful. The beach is somewhat small, however clean and the sand is fine.

Paceville

Paceville is the entertainment centre in Malta! There you can find bars, discos, cafes, cinema, shopping complexes/shopping malls(clothing, shoes, books, watches, jewellery, well, just everything), souvenir shops, casinos, nightclubs, bowling, games arcades, restaurants(Maltese, English, Italian, Turkish, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean, etc.), hotels, the Hilton tower(also known as Portomaso Tower), supermarkets, a small beach, a yacht-harbour, and much more. There is also a quite large shopping complex, known as Bay-Street Complex. Spread on four floors, you can find whatever you need.
