Prices, insurance and minimum age to hire a car in Malta

Prices vary according to model class, between €14 (the cheapest price as far as our research shows) and €49 for a car like a Peugeot 206, Kia or Fiat. Of course in Malta cars like Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, or larger cars like a Van or Minibus are also available.
The longer you hire the care, the cheaper the price will be. Students are often granted discounts.
Attention: Cars are principally not hired to people under the age of 21. People between 21 and 25 years have to pay a bit more for the additional insurance. That’s normally around €5 excluding tax.
In case of an accident there is the excess payment of €350 (varies sometimes). Some car rental services require that you deposit this excess ratio in cash. We wouldn’t suggest this, because you can never be sure to get it back - some find ridiculous reasons to keep the money.
Also it is important to check the car before you hire it! Sometimes there are easily spottable damages, in that case report immediately to the car rental service before driving off.
In Malta driving is on the left side of the street - since Malta was a former colony of the British Empire.
Some streets are very narrow, unbelievable narrow. Sometimes even too narrow for some larger cars like a jeep! So be careful.

Ferry Connections Malta-Gozo | Gozo-Malta
The only provider of this service is Gozo Channel Company. The ferry operates every 30minutes in summer and every 60 minutes in winter. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Marsascala
Marsascala lies south-east of Malta and resembles the sight of St.Julians, or vice versa. Marsascala has a nice, deep inland going bay. The bay is surrounded with a promenade. Unfortunately, the city isn’t a good starting point to discover Malta, because of its bad location and infrastructure.
Marsaxlokk Fishing Village
Marsaxlokk is the best known fishing-village in Malta. It lies on a vast bay which is surrounded by two tongues, Delimara Point in the south-east and Benghisa Point in the south-west (behind Birzebbuga).
