Pretty Bay

The Pretty Bay is next to the city centre of Birzebbuga (or better the city centre is next to the bay). The beach is very beautiful and the water is crystal blue.
Around the beach there are restaurants, cafes, hotels, residential areas and a small playground with football fields, for all ages alike. A small park is situated just off the beach with a very beautiful promenade and seating benches all around. The overall picture is a very beautiful one indeed.
The beach would be the most beautiful of the island, if some factors were not spoiling it:
1. The view is strongly disturbed by Malta International Freeport, which is opposite on one side of the bay.
2. The oil tanks and the pipeline of EneMalta on the other opposite side make things even worse.
3. And finally adding insult to injury there is the tremendous noise of the overhead low flying aircraft, which just took off or about to land on the nearby Malta International Airport runways.
The beach is however unbelievably beautiful. It is the only “real” beach in Malta in the midst of a city. The whole setup gives the beach a certain charm. In addition the buildings are built around the beach in a classical style.

Sights in Birzebbugia
There isn’t much to see in Birzebbuga. Most of the sights, like the three batteries, are too old or collapsed. The church and the Pretty Bay (Ramla ta’Birzebbuga) are the two nicest attractions in Birzebbuga. However, compared with other churches in Malta it’s quite simple and small.
Great Siege 1565 Malta
Karl V., Spanish king and the Kaiser of Germany gave the island of Malta as fiefdom to the Knights Hospitalizes (Knights of St. John) in 1530 with the purpose to use their powers against the godless enemies. The Turks defeated the fleet of Venice which was the biggest at that time in the Mediterranean Sea in 1538. The only galleys that could still endanger the Turks were that of the Knights of St. John. A conflict was inescapable.
The only public transport vehicle is the BUS
The bus-system is very easy to understand. A bus always goes two ways, either to Valletta or from Valletta away. In front of the gate of Valletta there is a huge roundabout - that’s the main bus-terminus in Malta. Some buses are also directly linking two cities between the north and south, but most of the buses are stopping in Valletta.
